Remote scouting report — our team followed the final stage game by game from a distance.
The final stage of the Brazilian CBI U17 Championship, held in Curitiba, introduced several new names to our radar. Paulistano were crowned undefeated champions for the second year in a row and earned a spot in the 2027 Youth Basketball Champions League Americas, where they will return to defend their title.
In the Final Four, Paulistano beat Minas Tênis Clube 52–49, Corinthians 84–68 and Pinheiros 90–69. Minas finished as runners-up and Pinheiros took third place.
The MVP joins our rankings
Neora Francis Ossete Toly (Minas Tênis Clube), the competition’s MVP and top rebounder, delivered an outstanding performance against Pinheiros, scoring 25 points and dominating in the paint. His play prompted us to take a closer look, learn more about him, and add him to our rankings.
New names from the champions
We are also adding several players from the championship team to our radar. Alongside the already-known Victor Santos, two new names have emerged: Luthero Balbino, the tournament’s assists leader and MVP of the final, and Marcos Paulo, who posted 19 points and 16 rebounds against Corinthians.
Another familiar name who continues to confirm his quality on the title-winning team is Michael Alexandre Rebonato, who delivered an outstanding performance against Corinthians with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. He was highly efficient attacking the basket, shooting an impressive 7-for-10 from two-point range.
Class of 2011, playing up
Also worth highlighting is 2011-born Enrico Boracina (Pinheiros), who stood out against Corinthians while competing two years above his age group, averaging 9.4 points and 3.4 assists.
Guilherme Alessanco, also a 2011-born prospect, was heavily pressured by opposing defenses. He had some very strong performances, such as against Curitibano, but struggled more against stronger and more physically prepared opponents. Even so, he averaged 9.4 points per game in the final round.
Corinthians’ backcourt
Dominated in the interior, Corinthians had to rely on their backcourt to generate offense, with key contributions off the bench from point guard Renan Loureiro, who delivered several standout performances throughout the tournament.
Added to our list
To wrap things up, we add Luca Reno to our list after he averaged 11.8 points per game in the final round. We are also beginning to closely monitor two special talents: Otavio Berto (Corinthians) and Samuel Barbosa.
